5 Things to Know Before Your First Camp

So it is almost time to start packing your bags for your very first Flying Fox camp!

Before you begin, you may be wondering about the experience that’s about to unfold. Flying Fox camp is filled with so many emotions: excitement, nerves, and everything in between – but rest assured, camp is designed to be safe, fun, and inclusive for everyone.

To help you get ready, here are five things you need to know before your first camp experience.

👕 Packing Time

Being prepared makes the start of camp smooth and stress-free. Make sure to pack all the essentials: comfortable clothes, swimmers, a hat, sunscreen, and your sleeping bag of course!

Our amazing team will send out a full packing list prior to camp so none of these items are forgotten. Most importantly, don’t forget to pack medication, clearly labelled and ready for medical staff. Our Medic and Participant team works closely with families to ensure everything is administered safely and on time, so you can relax knowing this is well taken care of.

👋 Friendly Faces & New Connections

One of the best parts of Flying Fox camp is the people you’ll meet. From our enthusiastic camp staff to the many participants and buddies, there will be plenty of friendly faces.

On our camps, every participant is matched with two highly motivated volunteers who are carefully chosen to align with their interests, personality, and goals. Our supportive camp staff are there every step of the way, making sure everyone feels included, comfortable, and having the absolute best experience they can.

🎨 Activities

Flying Fox Camp is packed with exciting activities, from outdoor adventures like the giant swing, ropes course, and flying fox, to creative workshops in clay, painting, and even cooking. And of course, the much-loved Flying Fox Talent Show! With something for everyone, participants and buddies can join in at their own pace and in their own way. Our inclusive approach ensures there are always alternative options and never any pressure. At Flying Fox, we’re serious about fun – whatever that looks like for each person at camp.

🍽️ Meal Time

Meal times are a definite highlight of the day! With all dietary and allergy requirements catered for so everyone can enjoy a nutritious meal, mealtimes are about more than just eating – they’re a chance to connect, share stories, and recharge for the next adventure.

🧡 Be Yourself

At Flying Fox, we celebrate individuality and diversity. Camp is built on inclusivity, meaning everyone is welcome and valued just as they are. Whether you, or your child is shy, outgoing, adventurous, creative, smart, cheeky, quiet – there’s a place for them at Flying Fox. Camp is about building friendships, trying new things, and most importantly, having fun!
