Medication at camp: Webster-paks

All tablet medication and vitamins brought to a Flying Fox camp must be in a Webster-pak. Here's what that means, what we can't accept, and how to get yours sorted before camp.

What is a Webster-pak?

A Webster-pak is a sealed blister pack prepared by a pharmacy. Each dose sits in its own bubble, set out by day and time, with a pharmacy label stating medication name, dose, and time.

Webster-paks are a safe, reliable way to manage medication. They make it easy to see which medication needs to be taken and when, so the right dose is taken at the right time. They reduce the risk of missed doses or errors, and make complex medication routines simpler to manage.

These are not Webster-paks, so we can't accept them at camp:

  • Dosette boxes
  • Weekly pill organisers with flip lids
  • Loose tablets in bottles, jars, or packets
  • Tablets packed at home in any container

Why we ask for Webster-paks

At camp, our medic team gives medication to lots of participants across several days. We want every person to get the right medication, at the right dose, at the right time.

A Webster-pak helps us do that safely:

  • It's checked by a pharmacist. The pharmacy packs and labels each dose, so we know exactly what's inside.
  • Each dose is sealed. We can see straight away if a dose has been taken or missed.
  • It's clear and consistent. Every dose is set out by day and time, which reduces the chance of mix-ups.

Dosette boxes and pill organisers are packed at home. They aren't sealed or labelled by a pharmacist, so our medic team can't confirm what's in each compartment. That's why we can't accept them.

How to get a Webster-pak

  1. Take the prescriptions to your pharmacy.
  2. Ask them to pack the tablets and vitamins into a Webster-pak for the dates of camp.
  3. Collect it before camp. It can take 1 to 3 days, depending on the pharmacy, so please arrange it as soon as possible.
Tip: if your pharmacy doesn't offer Webster-paks, ask them to recommend one nearby that does.

Other medications

Some medications can't go in a Webster-pak, like liquids, inhalers, and creams. Your pharmacist may also tell you a particular medication can't be packed.

These must come in their original packaging, showing:

  • the pharmacy prescription label (with the participant's name, medication name, and dose)
  • the expiry date
